Hi everyone!

We are really excited to introduce a new identity, featuring an updated color palette, typography and logo's. If all went well you should be reading this on our blog that should look a bit different than before.

When we started this adventure back in 2021, we've always thought this was something we would need to do, figure out a good design and implement it, something that reflects our values and helps us communicate what we try to achieve. At the same time we've been building Pixi and rattler-build – it was hard to find the time to actually make the transition. But now our new design is finally here, and we are really curious to find out what you think of it.

For those that just have gotten to know us, we've gotten into the game because we wanted to take the hassle out of dependency management while remaining true to our values:

  1. Don't shy away from tackling the hard issues.

  2. We want to be approachable and friendly to our community.

  3. Have a playful attitude and make products that are fun to use.

From Block to Puzzle!

As you might've noticed from the logo we moved away from the package block (some people identified it as a sugar cube or marshamallow ...) and we're using the a puzzle piece instead. You'll see this all throughout the new design.

It can be pretty tough to explain software package management to laypeople. So we always try to think of some good analogies. Trying to get all your software and dependencies to work together can feel like needing to complete a difficult puzzle. This is something that resonates with us and we hope this also makes for a fun and useful analogy.

So what has changed?

Other, than the style and the look of things, not much! If you came here for new features, don't worry we still have a lot of interesting things planned! In the meantime the front-page has transformed. A quick before and after:

A lot of the pages have had a similar visual overhaul, including the packaging index.

Our Pricing Page

You might have noticed that we have launched a pricing page! Exciting features are about to come and we will gradually unveil more about this in the coming months. One of the first things we are offering is our services: do you need help getting your packages compiled? Do you need a new compiler package, or some C/C++, R or Python libraries on conda-forge? We are here to help – please reach out to hi@prefix.dev and we'll work something out!

And just to be sure: our open source packages will remain open source forever. Features that we have in mind will extend Pixi's functionality for enterprise use cases or towards larger, cloud workloads.

What to expect next?

After this visual overhaul we want to improve some functionality in how to manage your package channels on prefix.dev so that it can serve as a stable good looking base to base future projects on. We don't want to share too much yet, but we've been prototyping different directions a lot behind the scenes. In the short-term expect some improvements to the channel management, if you have any ideas please leave them on our Issue Tracker. For the longer-term plans, please keeping reading these blogs!

As always we'd love to hear from you on our Discord Channel
